Area square

In geometry, a square is a regular quadrilateral. This means that it has four equal sides and four equal angles (90-degree angles)

Perimeter = 4 x a

The Area of a Square is the side length squared:
Area = a × a = a2

 Example:

area square

A square has a side length of a = 3 m, what is its Area?

Area = 3 m × 3 m = 9 m2

A square's perimeter, is the total distance around its edges.

Perimeter = 4a

Example:

A square has a side length of a = 5 m, what is its Perimeter?

Perimeter = 4 x 5 m = 20 m

Properties of Squares:

A square has four sides that are all the same length

All sides are equal in length

Each internal angle is 90°

Opposite sides are parallel

The diagonals are congruent
Be sure to use the same units for all measurements
