rectangle

A rectangle is a shape with with four right angles. It follows that the lengths of the pairs of sides opposite each other must be equal.

Area = b x h

Perimeter = 2(b + h)

Area of a Rectangle

The Area of a rectangle is the length on the side times the width

Area = b x h

Example:

A rectangle is 4 m wide and 3 m high, what is its Area?

Area = 4 m x 3 m = 12 m2

Perimeter of a Rectangle

The Perimeter is the distance around the edges.

The Perimeter is 2 times the (width + height):

Perimeter = 2(b + h)

Example:

A rectangle has a widith of 5 m, and a height of 3 m, what is its Perimeter?

Perimeter = 2 x (5 + 3) = 2 x 8 = 16 m
